Sehwag in the news

Virendar Sehwag has been in the news over the last 3-4 days for all the good things, I would say. A report published by two Economic Professors of University of Ulster placed Sehwag above Sachin Tendulkar in the cricket ratings. They claim that they have done the analysis taking into consideration the value parameter like scoring runs at crucial situations.

This analysis goes on to prove what I have been telling about Sachin Tendulkar over the last several years. I have no malice against Sachin and definitely he is one of the greats of the game. Sachin is technically perfect batsman but Sehwag rules the roost when it comes to results. Sehwag is the 'numero uno' as far as the ability to win matches are concerned. It is undoubtedly Sehwag's ability to score big triple hundreds in Tests and quick fire centuries in One-day internationals which has helped the Indian team to win.

What I like the most about Sehwag is he has never played for individual milestones. He always kept the interest of the team above his personal accomplishments. At times, when he gets out in 90's, I feel sorry for him. But 90's or 190's or 290's have never bothered him and has not slowed down his scoring rate. Compare to other greats batsmen who resort to "singles" and slow down their run-rate when they reach their 80's only. This quantitative study goes on to prove that Sehwag is a real match winner!! Well done, Sehwag!

The second one is around the controversy of Suraj Ranadiv denying Sehwag a well deserved century. Nothing wrong according to the rules of the game but the spirit of the game is lost forever. There are reports emanating that Dilshan egged Suraj to bowl a no-ball to deny Sehwag a century. Is it fair Dilshan? You play for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, mind it!
