I am a great fan of road-side eateries. Of course, not all of them but there are selected few I frequently visit. One favourite spot is the "dosa kadai" opposite Brilliant Tutorials, behind Pondy Bazar, T Nagar. The other one is closer home, this one being a "thallu vandi" style "vadai kadai". Whenever the hunger pangs rise its head, particularly during saturday/sunday evenings, I walk up to this vandi and buy some vadai, sundal to keep the hunger at bay.
Though I have been enjoying this, my son had been taught "outside" eating itself is not good.. Thanks to his school teacher.. Don't disagree with her but at times it becomes difficult when you have to convince your son to go out to eat. But a day came when he was hungry but we both were out on the roads near home. So I took him to the "vadai kadai" to catch a quick snack. At first, he was hesitant and didn't pick up anything. Then I forced him a little to taste the vadai and if he doesn't like it, then he can leave it. Gave him a piece of vadai and in no time his other hand was holding couple of more!!! He liked the taste and now once in a while he keeps asking can we go for the vadai kadai.. Got him successfully inducted!!
I wanted to make him understand that eating out is not a sin by itself, but we need to be careful in choosing the places and doing it once a while is fine.
